Earth Day Bird Feeder, Revisited

Celebrate Earth Day
April 22nd

Little-arty-pants made this bird feeder last year for Earth Day.  Since it has been getting a lot of hits this week, I decided to post it again.

The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970, in New York City. Hurrah! Forty-two years later, it is still celebrated widely.  For this year's Earth Day, Calvin and I made a bird feeder for my front porch.  Above is the You Tube video I used as a guide.

Procedure:

  • Our first job was to create the bird feeder from an empty gallon water jug.

              1.  I cut the opening for the birds to enter.  This is definitely a step for adults.

              2. Calvin decorated the milk carton with markers.  We used washable markers.

  • I gave Calvin a good long while to play with the birdseed, and he loved it.  He scooped, poured, dumped, and swished to his heart's delight.

  • Calvin filled the bird feeder with seed.

  • Poppa volunteered to hang the feeder with Calvin's help.

What are you doing to celebrate Earth Day this year?  We're going to the park or maybe the zoo.

Whatever you do, please spend time outdoors with your little ones enjoying nature.  What better way to teach them to appreciate our earth.

Two weeks later:

Do you have a comment or a suggestion?  I'd love to hear from you.
