The Recipe

This recipe for nontoxic play dough is from Jean Van't Hul's ebook The Artful Year: Autumn.  It's available on her website: The Artful Parent.    Thank you, Jean.



Ingredients:

  •  5 cups water

  •  2 1/2 cups salt

  •  2 tbsp cream of tartar

  •  food coloring if desired

  •  8 tbsp vegetable oil

  •  5 cups all-purpose flour

  •  2 tbsp cinnamon if desired




Instructions:

  • mix water, salt, cream of tartar, and food coloring in a bowl

  • cook on medium heat, stirring frequently until hot

  • add oil and cinnamon 

  • stir in flour, one cup at a time, mixing well until play dough is no longer sticky

  • let dough cool on the counter

  • knead

  • store in airtight container at room temperature

  • keeps for months
