Valentine Photo Collage with Paper Plate Frame

Valentine Photo Collage with Paper Plate Frame

Valentine's Day is a wonderful time to give a photo-framed gift of love.  Our photo frame is made from a painted, decorated paper plate.  We made three of them: one for Mommy and Daddy, and one for each set of grandparents.  We all love little-arty-pants.

Procedure:

  • Calvin's first job was one of his favorites: shake, shake, shake the paint bottle.  He's a big help, and I let him know it.

  • Once the bottle was shook, he painted a paper plate with red tempera. He did a good job of painting, but his attention span ran out before the job was finished. This paper plate took three mini paint sessions.  Calvin alternated between paint-play-paint-play-paint-play until the job was 'done' .

  • We stuck construction paper hearts onto the plate while the paint was still wet.  The hearts were left overs from making our Valentine's Day Hats.

  • The last step for Calvin was to sprinkle glitter all over the wet paint.  I've learned to hide the glitter until we're ready to use it. Otherwise, that would be all we'd get done.  Calvin loves glitter, and so do I.

  • I used Photoshop to collage a photo of Calvin inside a large heart shape.  If you don't have Photoshop on your computer, you can make a pretty paper heart with a photo inside.

  • Once I glued the photo onto the plate, it was done.
